I will never forget the day my parents found out I got a tattoo on my lower back. I come from a very conservative family so to say my parents were not happy is an understatement. It was the summer before I started my first year in college. I was 18 and ready to do what I want and what I wanted was to get a tattoo. I talked with my friends and went to a reputable artist in the area and got a tribal design on my lower back. My plan was to hide it from my parents for as long as I could or at least until I was out of the house in college. Well that plan didn’t work. One afternoon I had my friends over swimming when I thought my parents were away for the weekend. I figured it was safe to sport my bikini since they weren’t home. I was laying on a float in my pool when I heard the screech and a glass break. It was like a scene right out of the movies. My parents came home early and came outside to say hi. My mother caught a glimpse of my tattoo and fainted(yes fainted) and as she went down so did the glass she was carrying. The glass shattered and cut my mother. We had to rush her to the hospital because she was cut pretty bad. She got a few stitches and put on some pain meds which luckily eased her anger when I told her about my tattoo. I received a long lecture, some yelling but ultimately they had to accept that I was an adult and it was my body.
